Archbishop David Ashdown requested that each of the Parishes in the Diocese of Keewatin work towards establishing an Outreach Program. The topic arose at various meetings from time to time until the idea of a prayer blanket ministry was suggested.
we have received many messages of thanks from people who have enjoyed the comfort from our blankets
Our Priest at the time and the members at the committee meeting felt that this idea was worth investigating further. An appeal went out to the congregation for donations of blankets and we were fortunate to have several blankets donated immediately with the name of our church embroidered in one corner. In addition, we felt that a prayer should be given along with the blanket so we had these professionally printed.
During our regular worship service members of the congregation are asked if they wish to take a blanket to someone in need. If this is so then a blanket is chosen from a basket which sits in front of the altar. The blanket is then handed to the priest who blesses the blanket, the person giving the blanket and the person receiving the blanket.
The Prayer Blanket Ministry has been in existence for several years now and we have received many messages of thanks from people who have enjoyed the comfort from our blankets.
