At our Sunday service on Feb 23, Reverend July Ayuen, Priest In Holy Orders, was licensed and commissioned to perform the office of Honorary Assistant at St Chad’s. Rev Ayuen came to Winnipeg from the Diocese of Edmonton. He is currently, on occasion, ministering to a local Sudanese community. Rev Lenise Francis, Regional Dean and Incumbent at St Mary’s, Charleswood, read a letter from the Bishop and presented the license to Rev Ayuen.
Ministry at St. Chad’s
St Chad’s Lenten journey this year began with our participation in a joint Ash Wednesday service with members of Kirkfield Park United Church. A joint Good Friday service is also being planned. Our focus during Lent is a study of the increasingly urgent issue of food security.
The Westwood Ecumenical Book Club, which meets at St Chad’s at 1:00 pm on Thursdays, has just finished reviewing Diana Butler Bass’s Christianity For The Rest of Us and is now digging into Father Albert Cutie’s Dilemma: A Priest’s Struggle with Faith and Love.
For a number of years St Chad’s parishioners have benefited from an active Telepal Program which, through a network of dedicated callers, keeps all members of our parish connected. At regular intervals parish “telepals” make telephone contact with their assigned parish family members, advising of upcoming events of interest and ensuring that any questions or concerns brought up during their conversations are addressed. This telephone network has proved itself to be an invaluable communication tool, especially during this past few years of transition, when the need to keep all members informed of our progress has been critical.
Our parish website has been upgraded significantly in the past year.

Our Sunday service Prayers of the People always include the following entreaty from the Prayer at the Feast of St Chad:
Keep us, we pray, from thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought to think and ready at all times to step aside for others, that the cause of Christ may be advanced.
This prayer has taken on an even greater significance to our faith community as we continue to blossom in our new parish home.
