Beginning February 1st the parishes of St Philip’s and St Mark’s have embarked on a new period of shared ministry. This has happened in part with the appointment of Rev. Donald McKenzie as Priest at St Philip’s and Priest Associate at St Mark’s. At the same time Rev. Steven Scribner has been appointed Deacon at St Mark’s and Deacon Associate at St Philip’s.

This arrangement involves both Donald and Steven providing liturgical leadership in both parishes. Donald currently is primarily involved at St Philip’s while providing Eucharistic leadership at St Mark’s as well. At the same time Steven is providing Diaconal leadership at St Mark’s and liturgical leadership at St Philip’s.

The two parishes are also working with St Mary Magdalene’s to find ways in which the three St Mary’s Road parishes can minister together. Hopefully this will be the start of new beginnings and new growth in the Old St Vital, Norwood Flats, and St Boniface areas.

While this is going on, the two parishes are also working with St Mary Magdalene’s to find ways in which the three St Mary’s Road parishes can minister together. We are currently meeting on a semi-regular basis to look at how we can better minister in our communities with the limited resources that all of our parishes are dealing with. Hopefully this will be the start of new beginnings and new growth in the Old St Vital, Norwood Flats, and St Boniface areas.

The three parishes joined together for a pancake supper on Shrove Tuesday. There have already been some unexpected opportunities for togetherness when people at St Mary Magdalene found the water pipes frozen at their church and came to worship at St Philip’s. All three parishes came together at the Celebration of New Ministry Service that took place on March 16 at St Philip’s.

St Mary Magdalene has invited both St Philip’s and St Mark’s to join them on Maundy Thursday, and for the Saturday Easter Vigil. St Mark’s is celebrating their 100th anniversary in May, and hopefully the other two St Mary’s road parishes will find a way to join in the celebration. A healing service for early June at Coronation Park is also in the works.
